Mantras for Stones
Discover the sacred Vedic Bija mantras used to activate planetary gemstones. Learn the science of Sanskrit sound resonance in Jyotish.
In Vedic Astrology (Jyotish), wearing a gemstone is considered a solemn energetic contract with a specific planet. To initiate this contract, the stone must undergo Prana Pratishtha—a ritual that infuses the inanimate crystal with the living breath (Prana) of the planetary deity through the science of sound.
The Mechanics of Bija Mantras
Sanskrit is a vibratory language. A Bija Mantra (Seed Mantra) does not necessarily have a translatable meaning; rather, it is an acoustic formula. Just as a specific resonant frequency can shatter a glass, a specific Bija mantra is believed to align the atomic lattice of a gemstone to the frequency of its ruling planet.
Traditionally, the mantra is chanted 108 times using a rudraksha or quartz mala while sitting facing the East (or North) on the designated day of the planet, just before slipping the ring onto the finger.

Jyotish Verification
"According to the Brihat Samhita, a gemstone without mantra activation is like a body without a soul. The vibration of the Sanskrit syllables aligns the wearer's subtle body with the gemstone. It is critical to perform this ritual with a focused, peaceful mind, as the stone will permanently record your state of consciousness at the moment of activation."
